George E. Dykstra was born on October 30, 1919 in Michigan. George served as a First Lieutenant on B-25D #41-30555, 11th Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. George was "Killed In Action" when his B-25, which he was a Navigator, crashed in China during the war. He was originally interred in Mausoleum #2 Shanghai Cemetery, China and was later repatriated in the Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, USA on September 14, 1949 in a common grave with SSGT Walter J. Schexnayder, Jr. George was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
