Laverne A. Fink was born on December 21, 1921 in Allamakee County, Iowa. He was the son of Leo Leonard Fink and Lydia Emma Meyer Fink. Laverne served in the US Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He died on December 7, 1944 at the age of 22 in China and is now buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
