Frank Grimmer was born on August 3, 1922 in Bartelso, Clinton County, Illinois. He was the son of John Louis Grimmer and Celia E. Boeckmann Grimmer. Frank served in the US Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was killed while serving with the Air Transport command in China on June 26, 1944. He is now buried in the Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA in a common grave with his crew. Frank was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
