Boyd H. Hamlin, Jr. was born on March 1, 1924 in Clearfield, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. He was graduated from from the Philipsburg High School in 1941 and entered the service February 1, 1943. Following a three-month course at Western Reserve University., Cleveland, Ohio, he was assinged to Maxwell Field, Alabama and later transferrred to Turner Field, Georgia, where he served for a time as flight instructor. While in India, he made numerous trips over "the hump", of Himalaya Mountains piloting a C-48 loaded with supplies from India to Peking, China. Boyd was Killed in Action while on a rescue mission in India, June 9, 1945. He is now buried in the Philipsburg Cemetery, South Philipsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania, USA.

He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
