Hans G. Hansen entered the military service in California. He resided in Contra Costa County, California prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on February 26, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the building transportation equipment and also as Married. Hans served as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator / Gunner on B-24J #44-40787, 374th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

B-24J #44-40787 took off from Liuchow, China on a combat sea sweep mission. They attacked a five ship convoy that was accompanied by a destroyer and are believed to have been shot down by the anti-aircraft guns on that destroyer and crashed at sea. The entire crew of 7 were lost. He was declared "Missing in Action" on September 17, 1944 and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Hans was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
