William Ivan "Bill" Harbour was born on April 25, 1921 in Coleman, Coleman County, Texas. He was the son of David Frank Harbour and Ala Swindle Harbour Rambo. He served for two and one-half years on the famed aircraft carrier USS Lexington. He entered the Navy on April 5, 1939; and since that time he has participated in four major engagements with the Japanese. He received his discharge to enter aviation cadet training on June 26, 1912 and was called for service February 6, 1943.

Lieutenant Harbour was Killed in Action somewher over China. He is now buried in the Coleman City Cemetery, Coleman, Coleman County, Texas, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
