Hershel Buel Harrison was born on October 23, 1923. He was the son of Hezekiah B. Harrison and Pearl Faye Grant Harrison. Herscel attended Stuart High School and entered Army in 1943 and trained in Nev. He served in the US Air Corps as a Private First Class and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 26, 1944 and is now buried in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Muskogee County, Oklahoma, USA.

He also has a cenotaph located in White Chimney Cemetery, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-08-25.
