Jack G. Hawbecker was born on March 14, 1923 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois. He was the son of Alfred Graham Hawbecker and Bessie D. Hubert Hawbecker. Cpl Hawbecker was a Radio Operator serving on a B-24 bomber with the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 436th Bombardment Squadron. They were carrying a cargo of gasoline from Tezpur, India over the Himalayas to Hsinching, China when they encountered a violent storm and a fire on the aircraft. The crew was able to bail out and four men landed safely but Hawbecker's parachute failed to open and he was killed. Jack is now buried in the Naperville Cemetery, Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
