Albert Lloyd Haynes, Jr. was born on April 9, 1910 in Newport News City, Virginia. He served in the 26th Fighter Squadron, 51st Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He was declared "Missing in Action" on July 5, 1944 when his plane was shot down by Oscar Fighter in China while flying aboard P-40N Warhawk #42-104930. He is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Norfolk City, Virginia. Albert was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
