Robert K. Hill resided in Madera County, California prior to the war. He served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on C-46A #43-47211, 2nd Transport Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Robert normally served with the 1343rd Army Air Force Base Unit but was assigned to this mission.

C-46A #43-47211 took off, with a crew of 4, from Hauchung, China on a cargo mission to Peishiyi, China. After takeoff they were not seen nor heard from again. The entire crew was lost. Robert was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
