William Samuel Jones, Jr. was born on February 11, 1918 in South Carolina. He served in the 20th Bombardment Squadron as a Captain and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. William died on March 13, 1945 at the age of 27 and is now buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
