Edward H. Karger was born on September 24, 1918 in Illinois. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, class of 1939. His wife was LaVerna Karger, and his parents were Maurice M. and Rose (Agy) Karger. 1st Lt. Karger was the navigator on B-24 J #42-7335 assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 9th Bombardment Squadron. On August 14, 1944 they departed their base in Kermitola, India to fly fuel and supplies over the Himalayas to the United States Army Air Force based in Liuchow, China. The plane crashed immediately after takeoff, killing all on aboard. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.

Edward was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
