Norman Katzman served in the US Air Corps as a Corporal and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. on February 26, 1944, he was with the Army Transport Command and was aboard a plane carrying 21 passengers in the China-Burma-India area when the ship ran into trouble. Corporal Katzman helped the passengers to bail out, remaining at his station. Seconds later the plane crashed and exploded. He was Killed in Action is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
