Robert F. Kearns was born in 1920. He entered the military service in Connecticut and served in the India-China Wing, Air Transport Command as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was "Missing in Action" on January 31, 1944 but was officially declared dead by the military on February 4, 1946. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Saint Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. Robert was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
