John W. Kenner was graduated from Langley High School in June. 1940 as an honor student. At the time of his enlistment, he was attending Duquesne University. He served in the US Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of an aircraft during World War II. Lt. Kenner was reported missing in action on Feb. 9, 1945 when his plane, carrying a crew of six, went down in flames over Kehsi Mansam, Burma. It was his 31st mission. The War Department had declared the complete crew killed in action on that day. He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with his crew.

John was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
