Robert E. Kesterson was born on September 13, 1920. He was the son of Edward Benton Kesterson and Stella Crabbs Kesterson. He served in the US Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. Robert died on August 27, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in the Wynoochee Cemetery, Montesano, Grays Harbor County, Washington, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his surname is inscribed as Kestersen.
