Matthew F. Klopot was born on December 11, 1922 in Maine. He was the son of Frank Klopot and Sophie S. Scuik Klopot. He resided in Cumberland County, Maine prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on January 21, 1943 in Portland, Maine. He was noted as being employed as a Skilled welder and also as Single, without dependents. Matthew served as a Corporal, 1327th Base Unit, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident during the war.

Cpl Klopot was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
