Maynard Bond Long was born on January 12, 1915 in Volusia County, Florida. He was co-pilot of aircraft 42-3615. Pilot was Harry H. Roberts. They were on a return trip after taking cargo to Chengkung, China and were headed for Myitkyina, Burma on June 28, 1945. The aircraft departed at 1832 GMT with ETA of 2100 in Myitkyina. Over Mengsa the pilot gave his position report at 1940 GMt at 15,500 feet on "OBOE" course. No other contact was made with this aircraft.

Maynard is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA. He also has a cenotaph located in Oakdale Cemetery, DeLand, Volusia County, Florida, USA in a common grave with his crew. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
