Samuel H. Lovell was born on April 15, 1919. He was the son of Howell F. Lovell and Mary E. Bartholomew Lovell. Samuel served in the 1327th Army Air Force Base Unit, Air Transport Command as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He died on March 24, 1945 at the age of 25 and is now buried in the Fairview Cemetery, De Kalb, DeKalb County, Illinois, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
