Howard J. Lundberg was born on September 2, 1921 in Warren, Warren County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Robert W. Lundberg and Della Katherine Ettinger Lundberg. Howard served in the 425th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Flight Officer and Bombardier of an aircraft during World War II. He was Missing in Action on August 9, 1944 on his 4th mission when his B-24J departed Kunming, China, on a low altitude, combat-mine laying mission to Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Howard was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
