Charles Alexander Martin was born on May 15, 1915 in Jefferson County, Georgia. He was the son of Dilmus Benjamin Martin and Connie Arline Adams Martin. Sergeant Martin was a crewmember aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-29-15-BW Superfortress #42-6368 "Calamity Sue." While on mission raid to Yawata, his bomber was rammed by a Japanese fighter. He was killed in action when the bomber crashed in Yawata City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. He is now buried in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA in a common grave with his crew. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
