Walter C. Loftus, Jr. was born on June 16, 1914. He was the son of Walter Clifford Loftus. Walter served in the US Air Corps as a Private and food kicker in an aircraft during World War II. Walter died on March 6, 1945 at the age of 30 and is now buried in the Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
