Neil Gibson Martin was born on August 2, 1917 in Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas. He was the son of Floyd Gibson Martin and Nina Beatrice Martin. He served in the American Volunteer Group as a Flight Leader in an aircraft during World War II. He was killed in action while piloting a fighter aircraft, battling the Japanese in the skies above Rangoon, Burma. He is buried in Plot No 45 of the Mingaladon Cantonment Cemetery, Rangoon, Burma. Neil also has a cenotaph located in Hillcrest Cemetery, Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
