Fred R. Massing was born on October 16, 1919 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He served in the 425th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of an aircraft during World War II. He was missing on August 9, 1944 but was declared dead by the military on February 25, 1946. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. Fred was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
