Donald E. Mathews was born on January 13, 1924. He served in the 490th Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium as a Corporal and Arm Gunner of an aircraft during World War II. Donald died on February 10, 1945 at the age of 21 in Myanmar and is now buried in the Riverview Heights Cemetery, Kennewick, Benton County, Washington, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
