Hillyer Greer Maveety was born on August 21, 1918 in Texas. He served in the 14th Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 29, 1944 at the age of 25 while flying over the "Hump" in India and is now buried in the Fort Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, El Paso County, Texas, USA. Hillyer was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
