Thomas Hill Michael was born on June 3, 1917 in Davidson County, North Carolina. he served in the 1347th Army Air Force Base Unit as a Sergeant and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 19, 1944 over the "Hump" near Kunming, China and is now buried in the Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery, Reeds Crossroads, Davidson County, North Carolina, USA. Thomas was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
