James Chester Mohn was born on February 21, 1920 in Washington. He was the son of Knute Mohn and Augusta Severson Mohn. He served in the Air Transport Command as a First Lieutenant and Radio Operator on C-47A aircraft during World War II. C-47A #43-15398 took off from Lalmanirhat, India on 25 May 1944 for Chabua, India on a cargo run. This was an Air Transport Command aircraft assigned to Karachi and with an ATC crew aboard. The last report on this aircraft states the plane was still missing in flight. He was officially declared dead on May 26, 1945. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. James was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
