Robert J. Morrison was born in 1921 in Massachusetts. He resided in Middlesex County, Massachusetts and had been a member of the Massachusetts National Guard prior to the war. He was called back into active military service on November 8, 1941, prior to the war, and reported to Camp Blanding, Florida. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents. Robert served as a Technical Sergeant and Radar Observer / Gunner on B-24J #44-40787, 374th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was normally assigned to the 373rd Bomber Squadron but was on this flight with the 374th.

B-24J #44-40787 took off from Liuchow, China on a combat sea sweep mission. They attacked a five ship convoy that was accompanied by a destroyer and are believed to have been shot down by the anti-aircraft guns on that destroyer and crashed at sea. The entire crew of 7 were lost. Robert was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Robert was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-09-07.
