Wayland D. Mount was born on February 13, 1906 in Springboro, Warren County, Ohio. He was the son of Gaylord Clyde Mount and Grace Arvilla McGriff Mount. Wayland served in the 14th Air Force as a Technical Sergeant and Assistant Engineer of an aircraft during World War II. He died on May 8, 1944 at the age of 38 and is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with his crew. He also has a cenotaph located in Springboro Cemetery, Springboro, Warren County, Ohio.

Tsgt Mount was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
