Frank Lewis Munson, Jr. was born on January 27, 1920 in Michigan. He was the son of Frank and Marjorie Louise Worthington Munson. He resided at 301 Meigs Street, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on February 28, 1942 at Fort Niagara, Youngstown, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a filer, grinder, buffer, and polisher of metal and also as Single, without dependents. Frank served as a First Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on a B-24J "Puck" #42-73317, 373rd Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Frank was declared "Missing In Action" after the 'Puck' took off from Liuchow headed for the base at Yangkai, China on a Sea Sweep mission. The plane and its entire crew disappeared when attacked by possible anti-aircraft fire at sea. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Rice Cemetery, Holcomb, Ontario County, New York.

1Lt Munson was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
