Melvin Adam Nicoll, Jr. was born on June 24, 1922. He was the son of Melvin and Gladys Geer Cramer Nicoll. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served in the 72nd Ferrying Squadron as a Captain and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. CPT Nicoll died on June 19, 1944 at the age of 31 and is now buried in the O'ahu Cemetery, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
