Thelen H. Osnes was born on March 26, 1924. He was a gunner on a B-24J bomber assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 436th Bombardment Squadron. They were on a cargo hauling mission from Tezgaon India to Liuchow China. The plane developed mechanical problems and the crew was forced to bail out. All parachuted safely except for Osnes, who was never found. It is believed he landed in Chungyenysi Lake and drowned.
Sgt Osnes is now buried in the Madison Township Cemetery, Madison Township, Hancock County, Iowa, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
