Robert Eugene Oxford was born on October 23, 1919 in Pike County, Georgia. He served in the US Air Corps as a First Lieutenant and Bombardier of an aircraft during World War II. Robert died on January 25, 1944 at the age of 24 in a plane crash in Arunachal Pradesh, India and is now buried in the Magnolia Cemetery, Concord, Pike County, Georgia, USA. 1Lt Oxford was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
