Derollo M. Payne was born on May 21, 1917. He served in the 1st Combat Cargo Group as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of an C-47 aircraft. DeRollo died on September 23, 1944 at the age of 27 and is now buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
