John Emil “Pete” Petach, Jr. was born on July 15, 1918 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey. He served in the American Volunteer Group as a Flight Leader during World War II. He died on July 10, 1942 in China but his current burial place is unknown. John was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but hid middle name's initial is inscribed as R.
