Donald Loring Quigley was born on December 28, 1919. He served in the 75th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Fighter Group as a Major. During World War II, Donald Quigley became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat, before he was himself shot down, captured, and interned as a Prisoner of War. Major Quigley is now (December 2019) 99 years old. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal.

Citation:
Major (Air Corps) Donald Loring Quigley (ASN: 0-432207), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against the enemy as a P-40 Fighter Pilot of the 75th Fighter Squadron, 23d Fighter Group, TENTH Air Force, in action against the enemy in aerial combat in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations during World War II. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army Air Forces.

Major Quigley was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
