Walter L. Rose was born on April 24, 1920. He was graduated from college and When the war broke out, he enlisted in the Air Corps and became a fighter pilot in the 449th Fighter Squadron. He flew the P-38 fighter. 1Lt Rose died on May 29, 1944 at the age of 24 and is now buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Corbin, Knox County, Kentucky, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
