James J. Rutledge was born on May 4, 1924. He served in the 375th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was the Co-Pilot of B-24J #42-73305 'Rose of Juarez', which crashed at the end of the runway at Chengkung upon takeoff on a bombing mission 13 July 1944. 2Lt Rutledge is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-07-15.
