James F. Shea was born on May 12, 1921 in Maine. He served in the US Air Corps as a Technician 5th Grade and food dropper in an aircraft during World War II. He died on June 22, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA in a common grave with Tec5 Fredette and Tec5 Emmeluth. Tec5 Shea was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
