Rodney Roy Sorenson was born on September 30, 1923 in Kansas City, Clay County, Missouri. He served in the 9th Transportation Squadron as a Corporal and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. He was killed near Chengtu, China on Jan 19, 1945 and is now buried in the Laurel Land Memorial Park, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, USA.
Cpl Sorenson was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his name is inscribed as Rooney R. Sorensin.
