Gilbert C. Stockinger entered the military service in Pennsylvania. He served in the 28th Bomber Squadron, 19th Bomber Group, Very Heavy as a Sergeant during World War II. He went missing on April 24, 1945 and was officially declared dead on May 26, 1945. His name is commemorated on the Courts of the Missing, Court 5, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, United States. Sgt Stockinger was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
