Glenn Clayton Streeter was born on May 27, 1919 in Concord, Essex County, Vermont. He was the son of Harry Philip Streeter and Lilla Ardelle Smith (Streeter) Webb. He resided in Cuyahoga County, Ohio prior to the war. Glenn served as a First Lieutenant and Navigator on B-24J #44-40787, 374th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
B-24J #44-40787 took off from Liuchow, China on a combat sea sweep mission. They attacked a five ship convoy that was accompanied by a destroyer and are believed to have been shot down by the anti-aircraft guns on that destroyer and crashed at sea. The entire crew of 7 were lost. Glenn was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Old Overlook Cemetery, East Concord, Essex County, Vermont.
1Lt Streeter was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China and ranked as a Second Lieutenant.
