Paul John Tessmann was born on January 16, 1920. He served in the 26th Fighter Squadron, 51st Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. Shortly after he was sent to fight in the Pacific front as a fighter pilot, his plane was shot down. His body was not recovered thus, his name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

1Lt Tessmann was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his surname is inscribed as Tessman.
