Herbert Carlton “Herb” Thomas, Jr. was born on February 24, 1921 in Monroe, Monroe County, Michigan. He was the son of Herbert Carlton Thomas and Hildred C. McLaughlin Inman. He served in the US Air Corps as a Crew Chief of an aircraft during World War II. Herbert was killed in a non combat death while working on an airplane in the U.S. Air Force. A plane fell on him while it was jacked up. He was killed on active duty in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. His body was returned to the U.S. five years after his death on 22 Mar 1948 and re-buried in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, LaSalle, Monroe County, Michigan.
