Raymond S. Throgmorton was born in 1920 in Illinois. He resided in Cook County, Illinois prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 2, 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents. Raymond served as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on B-24J #44-40787, 374th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

B-24J #44-40787 took off from Liuchow, China on a combat sea sweep mission. They attacked a five ship convoy that was accompanied by a destroyer and are believed to have been shot down by the anti-aircraft guns on that destroyer and crashed at sea. The entire crew of 7 were lost. Raymond was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

1Lt Throgmorton was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
