Roy Dana Torbert was born in 1920. He was the son of Floyd Dana Torbert and Ruth Ellen Anderson Torbert. He entered the military service in Ohio and served in the 11th Squadron, 3rd Combat Cargo Group as a Staff Sergeant and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. He went missing on June 28, 1944 and was officially declared dead on February 14, 1946. His name is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Ssgt Torbert was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
