Richard Lee Vickrey was born on August 8, 1920 in Duncan, Stephens County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Clyde Vickrey and Korin Bradley Vickrey. He served in the 25th Bombardment Squadron, 40th Bombardment Group as a First Lieutenant and Pilto of an aircraft during World War II. He died on November 11, 1944 at the age of 24 in China and is now buried in the Rosemound Cemetery, Waco, McLennan County, Texas, USA.

1Lt Vickrey was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
