Charles Parkin Wassell was born on December 10, 1921. He was the son of Frank Lloyd Wassell and Georgene Parkin Wassell. He entered the military service in Connecticut and served in the 375th Bomber Squadron, 308th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was declared "Missing in Action" on May 19, 1944 and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

2Lt Wassell was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
