Herbert Waxberg was born on December 10, 1917. He served in the 2nd Squadron, 443rd Troop Carrier Group as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He died on May 2, 1944 at the age of 26 and is now buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York, USA. 2Lt Waxberg was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
